Carnations are seemingly unimpressive at first glance. Imbued with color and sold as novelty decorations for holidays or as a filler among a bouquet of exceptionally vibrant and shapely blooms. But on its own, unadulterated and given center stage, with no more than a bit of babies breath or a fern leaf as a border, the flower has a simplistic elegance and gentle fragrance of clove, cinnamon, and black pepper. Rivaling any singular variety of flower in moderation and resilience. The carnation draws the observer back in for a deeper inspection of the senses.
